First, I was thinking of doing another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a> tutorial, but my cottage wood wall filter quickly became way to complicated to explain, even to myself, so I just got this idea of a gold and silver striped texture that would make a barber pole like look on a cylinder, and it quickly turned out to be good.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->So, I fiddled with it for a pretty short time, maybe 10 \u00a0minutes, and when I tested it on a cylinder in Cheetah3D, the idea came to life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1673 alignnone\" title=\"es01\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es01.jpg\" alt=\"es01\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1672 alignnone\" title=\"es02\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es02.jpg\" alt=\"es02\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the texture, and the corresponding bump map. It doesn&#8217;t look much as a plain square of texture, but wait.<\/p>\n<p>So start up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a>, here we go again. First, as always, create a cylinder.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1671\" title=\"es03\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es03.jpg\" alt=\"es03\" width=\"260\" height=\"324\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rotate and resize it, and add then create a material from the texture, and apply that texture to the cylinder, like this.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1669\" title=\"es05\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es05.jpg\" alt=\"es05\" width=\"203\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a>Now, create a torus object, and size it like this, and put it over the end of the cylinder. You are curious now, are you?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1668\" title=\"es06\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es06.jpg\" alt=\"es06\" width=\"263\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Create a sphere, and size it like this, and put it on the other \u00a0side of the torus. Add a silver texture (or use the built in silver texture in Cheetah3D 5) to the torus and the sphere. Now, create a cube, size it like below, set the polygons to 4 x 4 x 4, and do two Catmull-Clark subdivides on it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1667\" title=\"es07\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es07.jpg\" alt=\"es07\" width=\"450\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yes, it looks like a hilt. Set the silver material on the hilt also. Create a small icosahedron, and make 3 copies of it, and spread them equally on the cube we just made for the hilt. We create a reflective, transparent material for that, like a gem.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1665\" title=\"es09\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es09.jpg\" alt=\"es09\" width=\"323\" height=\"228\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is what it should look like in the modeler.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1664\" title=\"es10\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es10.jpg\" alt=\"es10\" width=\"333\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, create a cylinder, for the blade, and shape it like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1663\" title=\"es11\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es11.jpg\" alt=\"es11\" width=\"337\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We shape the tip like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1662\" title=\"es12\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es12.jpg\" alt=\"es12\" width=\"450\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And we create a sphere, that we shape like this to then use a Boolean to remove it and shape the blade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1661\" title=\"es13\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/es13.jpg\" alt=\"es13\" width=\"500\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, we add some shaping to the blade, and add a HDRI image to the render, and we got a sword.
