I just made a nice battle axe that I wanted to share with you all.<!--more-->So, buckle up, and start <a href=\"http:\/\/www. cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a>, here we go.<\/p>\n<p>We start off with a sphere, like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1911\" title=\"ax01\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax01.jpg\" alt=\"ax01\" width=\"253\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we flat it down like a slightly convex lens, like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1910\" title=\"ax02\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax02.jpg\" alt=\"ax02\" width=\"287\" height=\"207\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we create a cylinder, size it about a third of the diameter of the lens, clone it and place the clone right beside it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1909\" title=\"ax03\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax03.jpg\" alt=\"ax03\" width=\"377\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We first merge the two cylinders using a boolean operation, then remove that boolean object from the lens shape. As you can see in this close up, the operation wasn&#8217;t a complete success, so we need to manually remove a few points and lines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1908\" title=\"ax04\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax04.jpg\" alt=\"ax04\" width=\"325\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I guess I could have used a third cylinder and merged that in with those two to avoid this, but I thought that showing a mistake or a problem is even better. Now. create a box and stretch it out. This did however make a great axe blade anyway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1907\" title=\"ax05\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax05.jpg\" alt=\"ax05\" width=\"291\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Set a low polygon count so it will perform nice when we run the Catmull-Clark subdivide on it. Now, add a sphere and place it at the back of the axe head. Add a high reflective metal texture to the blade and the ball, and a less reflective one to the headpiece,where we will fit the handle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1906\" title=\"ax07\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax07.jpg\" alt=\"ax07\" width=\"348\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Create a cylinder, size it as a handle, and give it the same texture as the headpiece. Now create a small sphere and place it where the headpiece and the handle is meeting. Use a darker non reflective texture to give this bolt an accent color. <em>Yes, I nicked that term from the TV-show design with Simon and Thomas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1905\" title=\"ax08\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax08.jpg\" alt=\"ax08\" width=\"450\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we add another cylinder to the handle, give that a wood texture, the hardwood texture from the hammer shaft is pretty good for this, and then, as a final touch, we add a cone and a torus at the end of the handle, and set a reflective metal color there as well. And this is what we got.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1903\" title=\"ax10\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax10.jpg\" alt=\"ax10\" width=\"529\" height=\"246\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And a smaller version, to show how it would look on a Dundjinni map when it is scaled down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1904\" title=\"ax09\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/ax09.jpg\" alt=\"ax09\" width=\"220\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I hope you liked this little uncommon break, and we will stay in the uncommon rooms for a while longer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, did you spot the difference today, the uncommon home.
