Today, we’re gonna start to layout some stuff for the ruins of Eastport. We start off where we lest yesterday, and open up the map in Dundjinni.

As you can see, I’ve added a part of the jetty, or walkway that is broken, and I’ve added some old paved roads too. Remember that we made that broken paved road filter nor so long ago. Also, I added some bush like grass, where I will add some bushes. If you wonder what that blue square is, that is the drawing tool set to 5′, one square. I sued it to draw the roads and it ended up on my screenshot, things like that can happen.

Now, I though I needed some floor tile textures that looks like debris, broken stones. I need the ground of the ruins to look like a little overgrown broken stone. So here my best friend comes along, FilterForge, version 2 beta to be more accurate, and I created a filter that can render debris grounds, with a lot of variations.

Here are two samples of the two tile sets I rendered first. They take quite a while to render as I use the new cool light effects in FF2, about 4 minute per tile, and I rendered 16 of each tile, but I just start it then work, then start the next when the first is done.

And the second version.

I think they look pretty good, and you can see some shadows in them, giving a little depth to the ground. So, I used these two to start to lay out the areas where I want the ruins to be. So far, I have very sharp edges between the areas, but I though I’ll take care of that later on. As you can see, I have the road drawn here as well, as this was a pretty organized village, more like a large keep. I made a place for a broken well, which I haven’t made yet.

Now, I went to the Dundjinni forum and searched for ruined and ruins, and I found many pieces I didn’t have in my collection. So, I add a few to the map to see how it will look.

So, this is the first part of the ruins of Eastport.

What we miss is a good ruined well, so we’ll make one tomorrow.

This feels good, making a real map again, not only making small items to use for maps.
