I’ll to the baddies some boring afternoon when it rains. So, it’s time to define what parts of the first map that we need to create in scale battle maps from?

The best way to do this is to look at the map, and define what areas are most likely to get some action in them.

By doing this, I used OmniGraffle to just draw an area, as you can see in the map below.

The reason I wanted to bring the street into the map is simple. If I do not do that, the players may metagame, eeh, assume, that there will not be any outside action. Even if they do not metagame on purpose, providing a map without it might subconsciously eliminate that as a possible area.

Now, I divide this area into maps, keeping them 7″ x 10″ or (7.5″ for the map which has the street part as it won’t connect to anything there. The reason I dropped the dormitory from the battle maps is just because it large, waste of inc. But as the adventure will contain the complete, uncut maps, any crafty DM that want to have a pillow war can print that part out too.

This is how the map layout will look.

As you can see, the fifth “page” will contain 2 map-parts. This time I did not consider page usage when I designed the original map, for many reasons. One, it was a “known” location that I wanted to map, real look override laziness. And two, I wanted to show that this is something to keep in mind when making maps, which we will do later on.

When I cut battle maps for a large rendered map, I as I wrote before try to make the cut lines along gridlines. I also try to cut the digital map just a little larger, passing the gridlines on all sides, which makes mounting much easier, you can tape with a slight overlap from one side.

This is going to be a long post today, we need to create the startup text for this adventure, in two versions, one for level one and one for level seven.

If there are fewer PCs than the remaining seats, DMs has to introduce a few other NPCs.
