Today is the big day. If you live in Sweden, you probably celebrated valborg yesterday, and for you who don’t have a clue what that is, I’ll give you a brief into to Swedish culture before we continue.<\/p>\n

Valborg means lighting great bonfires, drinking and sometimes firing crackers and students sing spring songs and it is really an old feast to celebrate that the long, dark and cold winter is finally gone.<\/em><\/p>\n

OK, back to business, fire up Cheetah3D<\/a> and get to work. First, we add the crane pole, which is higher now than in this first snapshot. It is placed in the center. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Now, I add the crane, by placing two bars side by side, then using a cylinder and the Array to repeat it. I will adjust it later so it will start and end in good spots.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Here you can see that I align the metal bars, hiding one of the long crane bars so it wont disturb the view when working. You always hide\/show elements as they tent to get in the way.<\/p>\n

Now, the second bar is in place, and I’ve adjusted the longer bars with a little 0,5 degree angle, so it all fits and looks like the drawing.<\/p>\n

Here you can see the top wheel. I placed a cylinder there, then used a torus ring to do a boolean remove, but I saved a copy of the torus ring, that I would place back. If this would have been a game 3D model, I would have merged the torus and the cylinder and mapped different textures to different polygons, so save CPU cycles.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Here you can see the rope, a cylinder that I carefully place.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

And finally the awesome crane is done.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
