{"id":4810,"date":"2010-08-29T07:00:51","date_gmt":"2010-08-29T05:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=4810"},"modified":"2010-08-26T09:26:01","modified_gmt":"2010-08-26T07:26:01","slug":"playing-with-woods-part-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=4810","title":{"rendered":"Playing with woods &#8211; part one"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am still working on the Egyptian market, but I found a new really cool bark filter by Aurum, and decided to take a shot at logs again.<\/p>\n<p><em>I warn you that this episode is a little unstructured as I was pretty unstructured when I did the stuff, and I made a lot of mistakes or followed some bad lines of development before I came where I ended up.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-05.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We start off in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a> to make a cylinder with 90 polygons around, and about 20 along, but only one division for the end caps. Why? Because I will set texture to then and it is much easier to do that like this. I made the mistake before and that took too much time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4817\" title=\"wend1-05\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, I found this very good <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a> filter for making tree bark, much better than the one I made before. Here is one render.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4814\" title=\"wend1-08\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-08.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is another, both look really great.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4813\" title=\"wend1-09\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-09.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, I need end caps, wood slices. I&#8217;ve tried before to make those in FilterForge but failed, and that time I reverted to use cuts from images at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cgtextures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CGTextures<\/a>. I thought of doing that and downloaded two wood end pictures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4820\" title=\"wend1-02\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"369\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4821\" title=\"wend1-01\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, they do look different, but still similar. But, I decided to give it a go now with FilterForge 2, and here is the result. This filter is not done yet, will revisit it a few times before I and satisfied. This is the first try I did.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4819\" title=\"wend1-03\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is another approach with a more random looking ring pattern and a darker core. I guess I keep both methods, and have a switch between them. As Murphy use to say: <strong><em>indecision is the basis for flexibility.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4818\" title=\"wend1-04\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, applying those ends to logs, and the bark to the side, what will I get?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4816\" title=\"wend1-06\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wend1-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"292\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A log, hat look pretty good.
