I had no idea how I would make them, but I knew what texture to use, the <em>Sixties Swirl<\/em> by Kochubey, that could easily be a thirties swirl.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->So, I started with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a> to render a texture for this, and made it large enough as it is a non tiling texture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-00.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4929\" title=\"umb1-00\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-00.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t it gorgeous, so lovely retro in the design. Now, I start up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a> and create a circular plane. Setting radial points to 12, and 2 for the plane.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4936\" title=\"umb1-01\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"377\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we select the center polygon and shrink that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4935\" title=\"umb1-02\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we lift it upwards.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4934\" title=\"umb1-03\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we go to line mode and select each second line around the parasol. and move them upwards.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4933\" title=\"umb1-04\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We make a Catmull-Clark subdivision on the object to smoothen it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4932\" title=\"umb1-05\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we shrink the selected lines like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4931\" title=\"umb1-06\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"339\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we Catmull-Clark subdivide again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4930\" title=\"umb1-07\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/umb1-07.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here we have a parasol.
