Today we will do that. I think we can make them look really great.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>So,we start our session today in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a>, to create some new textures. First, using my old iron texture filter, we create a rusty iron texture.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the texture map.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5335\" title=\"rail2-01\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the Normal map (<em>OpenGL type as we&#8217;re gonna use it in Cheetah3D) This is a pain as Carrara 8 and DAZ 3D Studio uses Direct-X Normal maps, so I need to remember what kind of map to render, and when I make an object and then move it to another application, I need to render a new Normal map. Hmm, maybe create a filter to transform a Normal map to the other model?<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5334\" title=\"rail2-02\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we need a good wood for the sleepers, so I use my &#8220;little old cottage&#8221; filter. Here is the wood texture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5333\" title=\"rail2-03\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the Normal map.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5332\" title=\"rail2-04\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we add those in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a> to the objects.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5331\" title=\"rail2-05\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you see, now the tracks looks totally unused, they need to be smooth and shiny on the top. I select the top polygons and set the modified steel texture there with some distortions in it. I&#8217;m also playing with rail positions as you can see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5330\" title=\"rail2-06\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now it looks like real railroad tracks that are in use. I have to check how much they should overlap to get a good distance between the parts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5329\" title=\"rail2-07\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-07.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"902\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I reverted to a normal positions, where both rails have the same position, and here it is the track piece.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-08.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5336\" title=\"rail2-08\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rail2-08.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"621\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one looks pretty good I think.
