{"id":5386,"date":"2010-10-14T07:00:28","date_gmt":"2010-10-14T05:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=5386"},"modified":"2010-10-11T20:08:50","modified_gmt":"2010-10-11T18:08:50","slug":"making-a-garden-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=5386","title":{"rendered":"Making a garden wall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For a map I&#8217;m working on, I needed a nice wall to surround a garden, so I decided to make one.<br \/>\n<em>Have you ever heard that line before from me?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls01.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As usual, we start up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a> and create a Box.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5397\" title=\"walls01\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stretch it, and then clone it and make the clone a little thinner. This will be the base and the top of the wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5396\" title=\"walls02\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we use another box, and use that as pillars, using the Array to make multiples and get an even spacing.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a difference between Cheetah3D and Carrara 8, Cheetah3D makes one object of the array object while Carrara&#8217;s replicator creates multiple instances. Both are good, for different purposes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5395\" title=\"walls03\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, we join then as one object, so in this case, the Cheetah3D approach suit me better, but I will someday show you why the other approach sometimes is better for other tasks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5394\" title=\"walls04\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, I create another box, for the corner pillar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5393\" title=\"walls05\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"364\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To spwce it out, I add a Cylinder with eight sides on top of it, and join them with a Boolean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5392\" title=\"walls06\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"374\" height=\"476\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, time for a texture, and I didn&#8217;t find any stone textures for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a> that did what I was looking for, so I created one.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the texture map, I call it stone masons stone, will probably finish it and released it one day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5391\" title=\"walls07\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls07.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the Normalmap<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5390\" title=\"walls08\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls08.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, applying the texture to the wall, or maybe stone fence is a better name for it, I get this. The ball on top of the end pillar is stone here, but that looked ugly so I changed that to metal later on, just so you know why it suddenly changes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5389\" title=\"walls09\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls09.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is the end pillar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5388\" title=\"walls11\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the fence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5387\" title=\"walls10\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"878\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is a picture from a map where they are in use, made in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dundjinni.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dundjinni<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5398\" title=\"walls12\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/walls12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"605\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think this looks inviting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For a map I&#8217;m working on, I needed a nice wall to surround a garden, so I decided to make one.
