{"id":6248,"date":"2011-02-06T07:00:48","date_gmt":"2011-02-06T05:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=6248"},"modified":"2011-02-02T22:29:02","modified_gmt":"2011-02-02T20:29:02","slug":"mapping-the-promised-land-part-three","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=6248","title":{"rendered":"Mapping the Promised Land &#8211; Part three"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we will continue mapping the lower deck of the Promised Land, the spaceship that will be the home for our heroes in the upcoming adventure for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.margaretweis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Serenity RPG<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake301.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today we&#8217;re gonna make something that can be used as an engine, or the part of the engine that can be seen from the engineering room. We start by launching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a> to create a metal plate texture for the engine. First the texture map.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake301.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6256\" title=\"plmake301\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake301.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the bump map.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake302.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6255\" title=\"plmake302\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake302.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, time to fire up good old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a> to make a model to render. We create a cylinder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake303.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6254\" title=\"plmake303\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we make three copies of that cylinder, increase the diameter and shorten them, and place them onto the original one, centered along the X\/Z axises.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake304.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6253\" title=\"plmake304\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake304.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we add the plate texture to the core cylinder, and an old iron texture to the other. And then we render it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake305.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6252\" title=\"plmake305\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plmake305.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"694\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think this looks rather futuristic without being to laserish.
