{"id":6318,"date":"2011-02-18T07:00:44","date_gmt":"2011-02-18T05:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=6318"},"modified":"2011-02-09T12:31:35","modified_gmt":"2011-02-09T10:31:35","slug":"mapping-the-promised-land-part-eight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/?p=6318","title":{"rendered":"Mapping the Promised Land &#8211; Part eight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we&#8217;re gonna make some more spaceship fillers, a wall console for the cargo bay, as the original model has some kind of electrical consoles along the sides.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->We start off in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a> today, making a Box object.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6329\" title=\"plb101\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb101.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"326\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stretch it out a little, and set the subdivision to 10.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb102.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6328\" title=\"plb102\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb102.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we create three more cubes and place them like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb103.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6327\" title=\"plb103\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb103.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We now do a CatMull-Clark subdivision on each cube.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb105.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6325\" title=\"plb105\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb105.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"393\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And we space them out a little so the inner cube is visible. Them we add all them together with some Boolean Joins.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb106.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6324\" title=\"plb106\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we create a new Box, to use to cut away the backside, so it will be flat against the wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb107.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6323\" title=\"plb107\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb107.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we walk all around the object adding seams, much like when a tailor cuts his cloth, find out where the cuts will be. The green lines are the seams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb108.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6322\" title=\"plb108\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb108.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some places needs some extra work to seam correctly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb109.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6321\" title=\"plb109\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb109.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we jump into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a> to render a metal texture using the basic metal filter, a good and fast filter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb109a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6320\" title=\"plb109a\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb109a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We create a material from the texture and apply it to our console model. Then we render it. I wont make any DAZ 3D prop of this, neither that good, nor that good, it i designed for a top down render. Then we place it on the map.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb109b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6319\" title=\"plb109b\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/plb109b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"390\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think these are good fillers, adding some life to the map.
