I needed that for a map, and I thought that this was a good one to show.<\/p>\n<p>First we fire up good old reliable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheetah3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheetah3D<\/a>, as usual.You might have another 3D modeling application, use that one as the concepts are similar, just the way you do things are different.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->We start out with a basic element, the cube.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-891\" title=\"bench-1\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-1.jpg\" alt=\"bench-1\" width=\"445\" height=\"410\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We reshape the cube as a plank, and copy it so we got two planks. This is the base for out bench. Now, I said broken bench didn&#8217;t I? I know guys like IronDwarf back at the Dundjinni Forum, who can break things using Photoshop, but this is me, and I am a drawing illiterate , so I use 3D -apps to break it.<\/p>\n<p>Plank one, I will break using a boolean operation, I created a stair object i Cheetah3D, and then I subtract that one from one of my planks, like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-893\" title=\"bench-2\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-2.jpg\" alt=\"bench-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"388\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This will give it a rough edge. The second plank, I distort by selecting a bunch of points, then move then, like the following pictures shows.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-896\" title=\"bench-3\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-3.jpg\" alt=\"bench-3\" width=\"272\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Select some points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-895\" title=\"bench-4\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-4.jpg\" alt=\"bench-4\" width=\"322\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Drag them out, then repeat this for more points, like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-894\" title=\"bench-5\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-5.jpg\" alt=\"bench-5\" width=\"333\" height=\"247\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And you get a plank that looks broken.<\/p>\n<p>The edge that was but by the boolean operations, also needs a little love, and they looks like this when we are done with them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-897\" title=\"bench-6\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-6.jpg\" alt=\"bench-6\" width=\"281\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/plank-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-899\" title=\"plank-8\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/plank-8.jpg\" alt=\"plank-8\" width=\"287\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we got two plank parts, and are ready to build our bench. So, we create a few more cubes and reshape them for the legs, and place them like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-898\" title=\"bench-7\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/bench-7.jpg\" alt=\"bench-7\" width=\"429\" height=\"391\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I do not care about polygon count, this is for rendering, not live, so real 3D pros might say this is stupid, but I do things they way you would build them for real, which makes them look real.<\/p>\n<p>Now, we fire up my favorite \u00a0texture making tool, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterforge.com\/?affiliateid=200100725\" target=\"_blank\">FilterForge<\/a>, to render some nice wood textures.I use a texture that someone else made this time, rustic wood, as it has the touch I like for this bench.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/rusticwood-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-901\" title=\"rusticwood-1\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/rusticwood-1.jpg\" alt=\"rusticwood-1\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/RusticWood1-bump.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-900\" title=\"RusticWood1-bump\" src=\"http:\/\/4eyes.code66.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/RusticWood1-bump.jpg\" alt=\"RusticWood1-bump\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are the texture map and the bump map I used, I scaled them down 50% and reduced size, but they are still really usable. So, how does it look now?
