I think I like the idea of common home mundane items, so I’ll keep that course of actions until I figure out something else, and I will do items needed for the maps I am working on, so each item will be seen in action, maybe not directly, but sooner or later.

Today we’re gonna make some tables, that can work both as tables, or as the top of a commoners armoire or wardrobe. These are items that you really need as your players constantly point out thing like Wasn’t that the chest in Sir Mordaks room?

We start off by render a bunch of textures in FilterForge, using a few different filters, among them cottage log wall, aged wooden floor and wood.

Here is one texture and texture map.

Now we start up Cheetah3D (version 5.1 came today btw, nice update), and create a box, that we reshape to the shape of a table surface.

ta03

When we make a polygon object from this, we set the polygon count to 10, so we can use the Catmull-Clark subdivide effect to make it a little nicer.

ta04

And then, after applying the Catmull-Clark, we create materials from the textures we just made, six different materials.

ta05

Using the UV-mapper so we get the natural table border in a way that we do not get a small piece of plank at the edge of the table. This one is nicely scratched, bet they got kids in this house, or a dire cat as a pet.

So, here are the 6 different tables, that we will continue working with the upcoming few days.

Until tomorrow, have fun.
