OK, Back to some mundane tool again, this time a shovel. I needed it for a map I’m working on.

As usual, we start off from Cheetah3D, and with a cylinder this time.

sh1

We reshape it as a thin pole, or a shovel shaft, then we clone it, and rotate the clone 90 degrees, and shorten it. We Catmull-Clark subdivide the small one, that will be used as a handle.

sh2

Now we create a tube.

sh3

We resize it so we have a very thin tube, and place it where the blade should be. When we are at it, we add a standard wood texture to the shaft.

sh4

Then we shape it as an oval, not a circular tube. And we create a box and use a boolean operation to remove half of the tube.

sh5

Now we taper the remaining part of the shover blade, like this.

sh6

And we render it from several different angles or views, so we have different pieces to put on our map.

sh7

So, where is the X that marks the spot?
