OK, I was playing around with FilterForge 2 Beta stage 2, and made this beautiful slag texture, so I decided to make a box of slag from the mines where the Iron dwarves have their mines. Check my map competition entry if you don’t get this.

So, we fire up Cheetah3D and make a box, they way we have done so many times. make a box, clone, shrink, move and remove, and we got this.

We add a standard wood texture to it from one if the ones we made before and saved within Cheetah3D.

Now, we create a Relief, which is a random height mapped plane that is good for many things, like  a pile of something in a box.

So, we apply the slag texture to the relief. The slag texture looks like this:

I know, with a different coloring, it could be an astroid or the surface of the moon. The craters were created with bombers/particles, and the beautiful lightning/shadowing effect with the new Ambient Occlusion feature. It is very time consuming to render, but it is still a beta, and it generate gorgeous textures so it is worth every minute. This one took about 5 minutes to render.

So, now we render the final box, and apply some shadows to it.

So, something to put somewhere to spice up your maps.
