I need some more strange items for my magic shops, more items that just look cool, and can give the DM some inspiration for adventure plots and hooks at the same time. Today, I just played around with some of those wood textures from CGTextures, and some other stuff.

I started up OmniGraffle, and decided I’ll make something that will be 2″ x 2″, so I sat the canvas to be that size. This way any images that are larger will be cropped automatically.

Now, I used two of the wood pictures I’ve found earlier from CGTextures, one plank and one of those old wood. This time I did not use the filter to bevel the pieces as you can see.

To get the sides to look different, I pick from the large wood picture at different spots.

Now, I add an inner shadow by using polygons and the linear fill from black 100% opaque to black 0% opaque.

I decided I would need something soft in the bottom of the crate or box, and as bubble wrap wasn’t invented, unless you was lucky enough to have some belly skin from a red dragon baby, so I went for hay instead. I located this hay picture at CGTextures.

Using one of my FilterForge filters, my cistinator, I made this random looking pile of hay.

Now, putting that piece of hay in bottom of the box, and adding the nice energy globes, and a radiant fill from black 100% opaque to black 0% opaque, I got this nice box.

And here it is in a store

As you can see, this is a store “back end”, with a large double door to load the merchandise.
