I have done crates several times here, with FilterForge, using textures and a mix between those, and I have used the available crates a lot. I have always admired a crate done by Alynnalizza, so I decided to take a hit on making a FilterForge filter that could make something like that.
So, here is the crate I really like.
I started out making wood, rim and rust in FilterForge, but then I had to remake the whole filter because it quickly become too complicated. Now, when it has been cleaned up, the simple structure of the filter looks like this:
Yes, that is the most complex filter I’ve ever made, but it is versatile. Here are a few crated rendered with that filter.
I also, to test how good it would look if someone used this filter to make crates for the next major 3D game, and this is a render made with Cheetah3D, using a cube and a crate texture that uses an image as a mark (the image is the default LifeSaver from FilterForge).
I could live with that, looks good in 3D also.
Now, I can do what I came here for, continue with my The Neverending Dock tiles, and this time I needed to create another warehouse, and I needed crates. So, here is the warehouse, tagged to avoid someone nicking it.
Those crates looks good I think, what a splendid day.
