Today I needed a 1930 style caravan for the abandoned factory map, and as usual I did not find any, but I found a drawing, or the sales note for one that I though I could model.
This is the caravan I’m gonna try to make, in a top down view. As you see, it is mostly roof, and a tap paper covered roof. So, how does tar paper look?
OK, this is a piece of tar paper. I do not think it has changed much, so I go for this. First, I create a tar paper filter in FilterForge, I had some ideas and is was a pretty fast job. Here is the tar paper texture.
And here is the bump map.
So, I got a texture and a drawing, lets get to work, start up Cheetah3D, and make a cylinder.
We squeeze this cylinder rather flat.
Now we add a box underneath it, so we know where the body of the caravan will be.
Now, we copy the roof cylinder, shrink it, and the make it a little wider.
Now we make a boolean remove, to get this, first by removing the copy of the cylinder, then by removing a copy of the caravan body box.
We add some texture to it, and then we create a pipe.
We resize the pipe to a smaller look, then add a cone as a little rain cover. We add a texture to it, and then we adjust the position.
And here it is, to down, with some metal bars added for hooking it to a car.
Would you sleep in that?
