This is the strangest thing I’ve decided to do, the speed governor of a diesel engine, a submarine diesel engine. I’ll need it for my 7.50 From Victoria adventure, and I could not find any good pictures of it that I could use.
I did find this one, a drawing describing it, and I used that to build my model after.
so, start up Cheetah3D and start to model. We begin with a cylinder today.
As we’re gonna use this as the main axis of the speed governor, we shape it like a pole, then we add another cylinder to it.
We taper this one (to be the bottom one), and and add a few more cylinders for the pump.
Then add some steel texture, and a darker metal texture too, for the pump part.
Now, the governor wings, needs to be added.
And also the top part where the gravitational regulator balls will be set.
Creating a ball for the balls, setting the circular polygon count to 90.
Now, creating a cylinder, and then joining it with the ball using a Boolean union operation. Carefully adjusting the size and the position.
And here is the final model.
And a render, not top down this time, as I need this to be something to see.
Looks nice and shiny don’t you think.
