So, we got the diesel drive, but what about the electrical drive? So, this one I promise is from pure imagination as I could not find any relevant photos of a World War II electrical submarine engine at all.
Starting Cheetah3D and making a cylinder, with high polygon count, a good start, as this one will be Tapered.
We use the Taper tool, first on one side and then on the other.
Then we create a box, and put it behind the cylinder (or motor).
Using the Bevel tool on edges, we make the gearbox a little softer.
Now, we create a sprocket spline and set the number of teeth to rather high.
We extrude it, then taper the extruded result to get a nice knob.
Placing the knobs on the gear box with a steel texture, and setting a darker texture on the engine, we got this
Now, we create two boxes, give them a copper texture, and place then next to the knobs.
So this is the electric engine, hope it works now.
So, how did the submarine engine map look like? This is a photo of it, secretly taken by German spies, and hidden for 70 years, or maybe not.
The drive shaft itself was made with a FilterForge texture I found, and the floor is my own submarine floor texture.
