Now when I am back at a little more regular schedule, I will start to do some more series of map making and item creation. I will start to make something that will both match the current ongoing map competition at Dundjinni, The wrong part of the town, and an adventure I am working on.

So, first some photos that I did find on the web, that all shows some kind of Egyptian market or market square. I also think The raiders of the lost Ark, and the market scene where Indy drops his sword and pick up his gun instead.

As you can see, the time span is quite wide, but the look is almost the same.

So, we start up Cheetah3D and start to make yet another market stand, this time of course with a different technique.

First we create a square plane.

We divide it to 100×100 polygons so it will be easy to work with. Then we select about half of the polygons, (shown as red here).

Now we rotate this chunk, and move it a little so we do not stretch any polygons. Look, we’re close to something here.

Now we do the same operation with the other half, and we got a roof like object.

Using the Magnet tool, we add some distortion to the roof, as it is a cloth roof.

Now, time for texture, and we start up FilterForge and my good old market cloth filter, I maybe should release it, but it is so simple.

A perfect cloth roof, dirty and sandy, not white anymore. Now we apply the texture to the roof in Cheetah3D.

And here is the first render of the roof.

OK, looks pretty good, but we’re not done yet, tomorrow we will continue.
