I needed a piece of lumber for a picture for Faces of Fantasy:Memorable Personalities (the upcoming sequel to Unforgettable Heroes), and as I didn’t have any, I did I as always does whenever something lies within my bounds of skills.
For modeling I’ll use good old Cheetah3D, and we start out with a cylinder that I stretch to the shape of the average log.
I now select all the polygons on the edges.
But wait, we do need textures for this. I jump into FilterForge to make some good looking textures. First some bark textures, here is one with a new filter that makes really good bark. Here is the diffuse map.
And here is the bump map.
Now I used my own wood ends filter to make the ends. First the diffuse map.
Then the bump map.
And here we have a log.
Now, to make this look like a log and not a telephone pole, I use the magnet tool to roughen up the log all around.
Pretty good, but why just one?
